Family Support Resources
Family support resources help families that are struggling with family stability, such as dealing with the emotional impact of deployment, and assist families that provide care to a child or other family member with a disability. The following are family support resources for veterans and their families.
Resources for a Family Member with a Disability
Air Force Aid Society - Respite Care
Provides a grant for respite services to active duty Air Force families who have a family member with special needs who lives in the household. The program is intended to assist those who cannot afford to pay for respite services. For more information: Respite Care

Exceptional Family Member Program
Provides comprehensive and coordinated community support, housing, and educational, medical, and personnel services to families with special needs. This is a mandatory enrollment program for soldiers on active duty who have a family member with a physical, emotional, developmental, or intellectual disability. Exceptional Parent Magazine - Military
Provides articles and information, written by Exceptional Parent Magazine, about latest news and issues affecting military families with a child who has a disability. For more information: Exceptional Parent Magazine - Military
Marine Corps Exceptional Family Member Program
Provides assignment coordination and family support services to Marines who have a family member with a disability. For more information: Marine Corps Exceptional Family Member Program
MilitaryHOMEFRONT - Special Needs
Provides resources for spouses, children, or dependent parents of military personnel who have a diagnosed physical, intellectual, or emotional condition and assists the service member during the assignment process. For more information: MilitaryHOMEFRONT - Special Needs
Navy Exceptional Family Member Program
Assists sailors about services for family members with a disability during the assignment process. Special needs include any special medical, dental, mental health, developmental or educational requirement, wheelchair accessibility, adaptive equipment or assistive technology devices and services. Special Restorative Training (US Department of Veterans Affairs)
Provides special restorative training and counseling to eligible spouses and children to help them overcome or lessen mental or physical disabilities. This is a part of the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program of the US Department of Veterans Affairs. For more information: Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program
STOMP - Specialized Training of Military Parents
Provides support and assistance to military parents who have a child with a medical condition or disability. For more information: STOMP - Specialized Training of Military Parents
TRICARE
Several options are available for service members or a family member with a disability or serious illness. Options may include behavioral/mental health care, durable medical equipment, home health care, hospice care, skilled nursing facility care, and case management. Also provides Educational Interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorders services that are not covered under basic TRICARE coverage, and only partially covered through the Extended Care Health Option. Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program (US Department of Veterans Affairs)
Provides services to children of Vietnam veterans who were born with Spina Bifida or may have other covered birth defects. Blinded Veterans Association

Military Projects at Zero to Three
Provides training, support, and resources about the impact of trauma, grief, and loss on young children (birth to three years old) of military families, particularly those families that experience trauma and loss as a result of a service member's deployment.
