OLRS faces another budget cut of 5.75%

It was announced last week that OLRS and most other state programs will be cut an additional 5.75% under the latest round of budget adjustments. OLRS will be forced to cut an additional $24,120 from its budget. This is the third budget reduction in Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 for OLRS. For the year, OLRS has taken a total cut in state funds of almost $100,000. The proposed cuts will predominately impact the OLRS' Ombudsperson Section, which offers non-legal resolution of disputes related to abuse, neglect, and institutional conditions. OLRS has until Monday, December 29 to make any proposed revisions to the Ohio Office of Budget and Management (OBM) or expenditures will be reduced in an "across-the-board" manner by OBM. The cuts will take effect January 1, 2009.

The latest budget adjustments follow two rounds of cuts totaling nearly $1.3 billion for state programs. Last week's announcement brings the total cuts to $1.9 billion in FY 2009. Earlier this year the administration had announced that a $1.9 billion reduction would be the worst-case scenario for the state.
