Families rate their satisfaction with Ohio nursing homes

A survey conducted by the Scripps Gerontology Center of Miami University on behalf of the Ohio Department of Aging was released during the week of December 22. It collected opinions from more than 24,500 families during the last six months of 2008. Families were asked about their satisfaction with nursing home services, such as direct care, therapy and other daily living activities. Of the over 900 nursing homes surveyed, almost 35% either didn't respond or didn't provide adequate responses to be counted. Nearly half (46.5%) of the homes failed to meet the state wide average satisfaction rate of 88.23%. Over 8% of the nursing homes (25) rated a score below 80%.
