On January 1, 2006, Medicare began providing insurance to cover some of the costs of prescription drugs. This program is called the Medicare Prescription Drug Program, also known as Medicare Part D. Individuals who are eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare (dual eligibles) are allowed to switch plans at anytime, but individuals who are just eligible for Medicare will only have the time during Open Enrollment to pick a new plan. A list of current plans can be found on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Medicare Web site: Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Finder
