Vision
We envision a society in which people with disabilities enjoy the same rights and opportunities as all people. Everyone is entitled to make decisions about where, how and with whom they will live and work as full and equal members of their communities. Our vision guides our work, as we work to realize our vision.
Mission
Our mission is to protect and advocate, in partnership with people with disabilities, for their human, civil and legal rights.
Focus
Our agency exists to provide protection and advocacy services for people with disabilities who:
- are subjected to rights violations because of their disabilities, and
- are eligible for our services under federal laws, and
- present issues that are within our agency priorities:
- mental health
- mental retardation
- developmental disabilities
- traumatic brain injury
- special education
- vocational rehabilitation
- disability employment
- disability discrimination
Advocacy
Self Advocacy:
- Consumer outreach;
- Information and referral; and
- Training/education/outreach.
Individual case advocacy:
- Counseling/advice;
- Mediation/negotiation;
- Administrative appeals;
- Investigation; and
- Individual litigation.
Systems change:
- Systemic litigation; and
- Educating policymakers.
