Case Problems Areas

Together, OLRS' federal and state programs define over 200 case problem areas. The long list reflects the many barriers and rights violations that continue to confront people with disabilities every day as they assert their human, civil and legal rights. Collaboratively with each client, OLRS evaluates and identifies the presenting case problems to be addressed, for example:

  • inappropriate or excessive mechanical, physical or chemical restraint
  • denial of privacy rights, denial of access to or correction of records
  • architectural accessibility, inaccessible polling place/equipment
  • access to education and early intervention services
  • discrimination in hiring, unlawful termination/firing
  • access to augmentative communication devices
  • denial of recreational opportunities or visitors
  • threats of retaliation or verbal abuse
  • financial exploitation
  • sexual assault

The following six categories summarize the nearly 4,000 case problem areas that OLRS identified and addressed in collaboration with its clients in FY 2006.
