A series of regional forums is being held throughout Ohio with the goals of (1) sharing the most recent findings from the 2008 Ohio Family Health Survey and discussing their implications for various regions of the state, (2) providing updates on state level health policy developments from the State Coverage Initiative, the State Quality Initiative, the Coverage and Quality Council, and the state budget and (3) learning about regional or local activities and best practices in the areas of health care access, patient safety, health quality, health system improvement, or wellness that can be shared with the state level health policy initiatives.

Representatives of federal agencies will present an update on their litigation, technical assistance and enforcement efforts over the past year in regard to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).Participants will have an opportunity to pose questions to the presenters regarding issues in their own workplace or community.

This open forum is for people with disabilities, their families, friends and people who serve them so they can give their experiences about what is keeping them from getting a job. All testimony will be recorded and a summary will be prepared along with recommendations to improve gainful employment for people with disabilities. The report will be shared with service providers, legislators, government officials, employers and others.

This seminar is designed for those who work with individuals who are filing for or receiving disability benefits from the Social Security Administration. At the conclusion, participants should have a solid understanding about Social Security disability programs and benefits, how to apply, the appeals process, the medical decision process, electronic services at Social Security Online, working while still receiving disability benefits and the important role third parties play in helping clients navigate the Social Security system. Up to 10 CEUs are offered by the Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board (application pending approval). Space is limited so you must register by Thursday, August 6, 2009.
